Retailers play an important role in product stewardship by providing consumer convenience for the take back of used products, by educating consumers on product stewardship opportunities, and selling “green” products. They also need to reduce their own environmental impact in providing these services. In this session, leading retailers in the U.S. and Canada will discuss their experiences implementing product stewardship strategies, including reducing their carbon footprint, choosing and promoting sustainable products, educating customers, and serving as collection sites to enhance the recycling and safe disposal of their customers’ products. Speakers will address the reasons why choosing to do these things is good for business, as well as the challenges they encounter.
