WEBINAR: "Breaking the Fee-ver: Maintaining EPR for Packaging in the Face of Rising Costs"
Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

EPR packaging fees worldwide are being increased to reflect the difficulty in managing certain materials. Combined with disruptor fees for materials that contaminate the recycling stream, this approach is resulting in higher recycling rates, and impacting the cost of goods. In this EPI-sponsored webinar, Victor Bell will discuss trends in EPR material categories, and the newly published ISO technical report, which may impede the use of disruptor fees to encourage better packaging materials.

According to recent estimates, approximately 150 million scrap tires sit in stockpiles across the country, representing a significant source of environmental pollution and ecological disruption. Tire stockpiles attract disease-carrying rodents and mosquitoes, can contaminate the soil, and present toxic fire hazards. The good news is that there are a growing number of markets for scrap tires, which promise to create thousands of new jobs, spur economic growth, and reduce pollution. What are these markets and what types of jobs do they generate? What are potential future markets? What role do tire manufacturers play in preventing the environmental impacts of tire waste? How can scrap tire stockpiling be prevented, and where can costs related to tire waste management be reduced? This webinar features some of North America’s foremost experts on rubber tire production and recycling, and will explore these questions and more.

Speakers include:

· Andrew Horsman, Exec. Director, Tire Stewardship Ontario

· Michael Blumenthal, Rubber Manufacturers Association

· Kimberly Del Castillo, Recycling Coordinator, Del Rio, TX

· Garth Hickle, Minnesota (INVITED)
