Background Material
Overview: Overview: While the United States targeted electronics, paint, and mercury products for our early extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs, Europe tackled packaging. More than 30 European countries have packaging EPR laws, with some systems in place for 20 years. Four Canadian provinces also have EPR laws on packaging, and almost all the provinces have container deposit laws. This webinar will feature key industry representatives from Europe and Canada providing their perspectives on packaging EPR systems, including positive program aspects, challenges they face, and advice for us in the U.S. about how to do it better. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
Moderator:
Scott Cassel, Product Stewardship Institute
Presenter:

Jane Bickerstaffe, (Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment (INCPEN))

Julian Carroll, (EUROPEN - The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment )

Catherine Abel, (Food and Consumer Products of Canada)
