Suna is an experienced policy analyst and researcher with an environmental engineering background. Her expertise includes an understanding of product stewardship programs in the U.S. and Canada at both the policy level and the operational/implementation level. At PSI, Suna leads technical research, and develops and analyzes product stewardship policy in a number of product areas, including batteries, carpet, mattresses, household hazardous waste, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, mercury thermostats, and tires. She develops model legislation, creates product stewardship guidance documents, and implements recycling and education/outreach initiatives. Suna earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto where, building on her work as an environmental engineer, she conducted research on the relationship between environmental policy and technology change. Suna’s background also includes regulatory compliance auditing, emissions reporting, and technical and economic assessment in the areas of pollution prevention, hazardous and solid waste management, air quality, and water pollution control. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, both from Iowa State University.
